Camilla Dongelmans

Camilla Dongelmans is a certified art historian and painting conservator based in Amsterdam. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Art History and a master’s degree in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage from the University of Amsterdam. During her internships at the Cultural Heritage Agency of the NetherlandsYale University Art Gallery, and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, she has specialised in the research and conservation of paintings, with a particular focus on early modern and contemporary painting.

The conservation of modern and contemporary paintings particularly interests Camilla because of the wide variety of materials and techniques used to create these artworks. Artists of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries often experimented with new types of paint, supports, and applications, which present unique conservation challenges. Investigating these materials and identifying appropriate conservation methods are central to her work.

Camilla’s conservation practice is centered on a careful and respectful approach. Each painting is treated with great precision, using non-invasive and reversible techniques and materials whenever possible. Preserving the artistic intent and historical integrity of the work is always the top priority.

Camilla is a member of the national professional association Restauratoren Nederland, and works in accordance with the professional guidelines of E.C.C.O.
